Cleveland Indians third baseman Al Rosen is unanimously named the American League Most Valuable Player with a record 336 votes. Rosen had the best year of his career that season hitting .336 and led the league in both home runs (43) and runs batted in (145). The 43 home runs was, at that time, a new franchise record for home runs in a single season. The Tribe have not had a player win the MVP award since Rosen.
