In a Sunday game at Cleveland Stadium, Seattle relief pitcher Mike Schooler gives up a 2-out grand slam to Tribe third baseman Carlos Martinez in the 12th inning. The walk-off blast gives the Indians a 12 – 9 win. The grand slam was the fourth hit off Schooler that year, tying the major league record. In addition, Cleveland slugger Albert Belle hit 3 homers in the contest.
